How to Reprogram Your Mind for Success

Your thinking determines your success. How you think will affect how you feel; how you feel will affect how you act, and how you act will affect the results you get in life.

Hence, if you want to change your life, change the way you think.

When your thinking change, your results will follow.

In his best-selling book, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, Harv Eker shared this below formula:

thoughts create results

Your thoughts determine your feelings, and your feelings determine your actions, which ultimately decide your results in life.

This is why your thinking is everything.

I bet you have heard the phrase, “You become what you think about most of the time.” So, ask yourself what do you think about most of the time?

Do you think about how to beat the boss in your games? Do you think about what to do and where to dinner tonight? Do you think about your goals and your dreams?

Your life will be affected by your dominant thoughts.

Therefore, successful people become successful because of the way they think.

If you want to be successful, just program your subconscious mind to think about the success you want.

Here are some methods how can reprogram your mindset for success:

1. Kick-start your day with intention and clear direction

Begin every day with the right intention and know the direction you want to go to. If you want to be successful, you can’t leave things up to chances, you must take charge and be the captain of your life.

Successful people understand that if they want to produce amazing results in life, they can’t leave things up chances. They are proactive and they know that the only way to get what they want is to design a life that will get them there.

Unsuccessful people, on the other hand, have the thinking “life happens to me”, hence, they reactive and they respond to things rather than making things happen.

If you want to reprogram your mind, you must start each day with clear intention and direction.

Action Steps:

Start your day by setting and reviewing your goals. What are the goals you want to achieve today, this week, this month, and this year? What kind of success are you looking for?

In other words, you have to be clear with what you want out of your life, and then live each day to make your dreams come true. Remember, your dreams will remain dreams if you don’t turn them into goals and make plans to achieve them.

If you want to master the skill of setting and achieving goals, use my Goal Setting Formula technique here.

2. Consciously daydream about the success you want

Yes, besides starting your day with intention and clear direction, you must also allow your mind to have fun daydreaming about the successful life you want.

Remember I told you that your thoughts will determine your feelings? So, have fun and make time to daydream. When you daydream about the things that you want, that you are living the perfect life you desire, it makes you feel good. And when you feel good, you are more likely to take action and act.

The key is to keep your motivation high. You want to maintain your momentum and constantly remind yourself of your dreams.

Unsuccessful people don’t dare to dream. They think that daydreaming is unproductive and bad to their lives, and I’m here to tell you that this is so wrong.

If you read the biographies of extraordinary people like Albert Einstein, Steve Jobs, Richard Branson, and Steve Jobs, you will notice that these people are visionaries. They daydream about their vision a lot of they allow time to think about the future that they want.

So, don’t be afraid to schedule time to daydream. The more you think about the things that you want, the more you are going to achieve them.

Action Steps:

Make time to daydream. Don’t just set goals and plan your day once in the morning, you need to recalibrate to make sure you are on the right track all the time.

This is why daydreaming is so important and it is also one of the best ways to reprogram your mindset for success.

3. Measure your success and how far you have come

Another powerful method you can apply is to measure your success. You can do it throughout your day or you can do it every night before you go to bed.

In other words, you want to measure how far you have come and how much you have accomplished. You want to take a moment to count your wins and victories.

People fall into the negative thinking cycle because they constantly focus on what is wrong with their lives. Instead, choose to focus on what is right. Program your mind with the good things that have happened to you and you will have more good things come your way.

When you make it a conscious effort to count your wins, you are programming your mind to think about all the good things that have happened to you throughout the day. And by doing so, you are recognizing the positive energies that make you feel good.

As a result, you will always be motivated and inspired to take more action and become more resilient with your goals and dreams.

Action Steps:

Record and write down all your wins and victories, no matter how big or small they are. Practice Reverse Gap Thinking and measure how far you have come and not how far you still are from your goals.

You can also write down your wins in a success journal. And whenever you are feeling down, take a look at all the wins you have created so far, and you will feel inspired once more.

As what Oprah Winfrey said:

"The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate."

“The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.”

4. Create positive affirmations and repeat them

Affirmations are powerful. Do you notice that you are constantly talking to yourself in your head? Some people call this the ‘little voice’. Well, it is just your self-talk.

And guess what, your self-talk is one of the most influential factors that will determine your success and failure in life.

People who always talk to themselves negatively will never be successful in life. Think about it, whenever you are presented with an opportunity to grow your life, but if your self-talk is holding you back, you will never make the decision and take the opportunity.

You must learn how to talk to yourself positively. Change the way you talk to yourself and you will change your life.

And you can always start by practicing and repeating your affirmations.

If you think that affirmations don’t work because you have tried them, you’re wrong. Affirmations work. It doesn’t work for you because either you don’t practice it the right way or you simply don’t hold on to it long enough.

When it comes to affirmations, many people get it wrong. And I strongly suggest you read my previous article about using the right technique and make affirmations work for you:

How To Make Your Affirmations Work – The 5 Simple Rules To Follow

Affirmations are like pep-talk. Professional athletes use pep-talk to motivate themselves and their teammates. And if it works for them, it will work for you.

Action Steps:

Practice and repeat affirmations. First, create your affirmations. If you have no idea what kind of affirmations you can create for yourself, check out these 77 positive affirmations here.

Whenever you are free, repeat your affirmations, either out loud or in your head. And make sure you FEEL the emotions as you repeat them.

Use your downtime like when you are waiting in line, commuting, or idle time to program your mindset for success through affirmations.

5. Associate with other positive and successful minds

Affirmations can be a powerful tool to reprogram your thinking, but do you know what is even more powerful? The influence you receive from others.

Hence, associate with other positive and successful people so that you will think and act like them.

Jim Rohn said that you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with, and he was right.

We become who we associate with most of the time.

When you spend most of your time with negative people, their thinking will influence you to think negatively too.

And when you associate yourself with people who are more successful than you, you will start thinking like them and you want to be like them too.

When he was young, John Assaraf (now a New York Times best-selling author and neuro-brain expert) often mixed with the wrong crowd. He made friends who did petty crimes and ended up doing the same thing as well.

Luckily, one day he got a job to work in a men’s health club for $1.64 an hour. What truly changed his life was he got to listen to the conversation of successful businessmen telling their stories in the sauna.

The more he listened to those stories, the more he believed that if those people can do it, so could he.

And that’s what set John Assaraf’s path to success. Today, he is a neuroscience expert sharing and teaching people how to live their best lives and achieve unlimited success.

Action Steps:

Learn from John Assaraf’s story – you become who you spend the most time with. Thus, make friends and associate yourself with other successful people.

Besides that, get rid of negative people who always blame and complain. Negative people will drain your energy and influence you to believe that what you want is impossible to achieve.

Stefan James shared his 3 tips on how you can surround yourself with successful people. You can read his article and watch a short video from his website here.

6. Read about success

The easiest way to reprogram your mind for success is to read about success.

When you read, you are consciously putting yourself into the author’s mind and you are reading from his or her perspective.

And when you read biographies, you get to learn how extraordinary people think and make decisions in life. And this can be life-changing.

And this is also why I strongly encourage you to make reading a habit. On average, I spend about 30 to 60 minutes into reading each day.

Reading doesn’t just reprogram my mind, it also boosts my knowledge and inspires me to take more action.

Action Steps:

Make it a habit to read for at least 30 minutes every day. Read personal development books and good books that will help you improve your life.

If you have no idea what books to read, check out my recommendation here.

One more thing, don’t just read for the sake of reading, make the most out of what you read. Reading is just a form of potential power, the true power comes when you apply what you have learned.

7. Ask questions that will lead you to success

Besides all the above-mentioned methods, you can also ask yourself thought-provoking questions that can help you reprogram your mind to become more successful.

Do you know that questions are powerful? Our brains work like how Google works. When we ask ourselves a question, our brains will then work on it and give us the answer to the question. Like how Google search works.

Therefore, when you search for the wrong thing, Google will return you with the wrong results. But if you search for the right thing, you will get the right results.

The same principle applies to your mind. Ask the right questions and you will get the right answers.

So, what are some of the questions that can help you reprogram your mind for success? Here are a few you can ask yourself:

  • “What does success mean to me?”
  • “What’s the one small thing I can do right now to get closer to the success that I want?”
  • “What is the most important goal for today?”
  • “Who do I need to become in order to achieve the amazing results I desire in life?”
  • “What was the good that happened today?”
  • “What am I afraid of and what is stopping me from moving forward?”
  • “What are the hard things that I’m not doing enough?”
  • “What are the easy things that I did too much?”

Check out this article from TheMuse.com for the 8 questions that successful people ask themselves constantly.

Do you know that Steve Jobs asked himself this life-changing question each morning?

“If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I’m about to do today?”

If his answer was a ‘no’ for too many days, he knew that something was not right, and he needed to make a change.

That was the question that Jobs asked himself when he looked at the mirror each morning. Questions can be life-changing. They can program your mind for success.

Action Steps:

Identify some of the thought-provoking questions and ask yourself every day. You have to be serious and truly answer the question. Put in some deep thought and really find the answer within yourself.

Conclusion

Remember, success starts with you – your mindset. How you think will determine how you feel, and how you feel will determine how you act in your daily life.

Therefore, use the above 7 methods to reprogram your mind for success.
