important-areas-of-life

We all know that setting goals are important, but that leads to another question – what goals should we set? Or in which area do we need to set our goals? In this article, I’m going to share with you the 6 important areas of your life where you want to excel in.

When it comes to reaching your goals, living a better and more successful life, most of us will think about becoming financially free, having a good family, and are enjoying lives to the fullest.

But, how do you do that exactly?

Well, the easiest way is to set goals in the most important areas of your life.

I like the idea from this website. The article showed why having a more balanced life is important:

This is why living a balanced life is important.

As you can see from the picture of the bicycle above. The wheels represent your life.

Hence, if you are living an imbalanced life, it is difficult to move forward smoothly and easily.

When one area of your life is not working well, it will make your life difficult to journey through and move forward. It is going to be a bumpy ride.

However, when your life is in balance, the wheels of life will be round in shape. And that makes your bike easier to ride and move forward.

You can then ride forward faster and travel smoother. This is why it is important to set goals in the important areas of your life.

You don’t want to be living a financially successful life but you’re suffering in your relationship or health, right?

We want to live a good life, not just a life where we excel in one area but are a disaster in another.

So, to make life more interesting and balance, learn to set goals and excel in these 6 important areas of your life:

1. Career and Finance

career and finance

This is one of the most important areas of your life. You can’t live a successful life if you are constantly worried about having no money to pay the bills.

Your career and your work are going to fill a large part of your life. In fact, you’re going to spend at least one-third of your life working, hence, if you’re not doing good in this area, it means you’re going to waste a lot of your life here.

Now, I’m not saying that you should set a goal to be a millionaire, but rather, you should at least hit the income level where you can live comfortably without worry about having not enough money.

According to this article on CNBC, studies have discovered that happiness does increase with wealth, but it only increases up to a certain level – $75,000.

On average, experts found that if you earn below $75,000 a year, you won’t feel as happy. And as your income rises, you feel happy and satisfied, but once your income hits $75,000 per year, earning more doesn’t really increase your happiness anymore.

Therefore, set goals to excel in your career and finance.

Regardless of whether you are working for yourself or someone else, create a plan to do better.

Well, here are a couple of goals suggestions you can set in your career and finance:

  • To earn a certain amount of money from your business.
  • To save a certain amount of money for investment or emergency each month.
  • To build a 7-figure internet business or to start a side income project.
  • To be promoted to a higher position in your company.

2. Love and Relationship

love and relationship

The next area you should focus on is your love and relationship. This area of your life is so important that it is going to affect every other area of your life if you are not doing well here.

Just think about it, can you work well and perform at your best if you are constantly affected by your love and relationship with other people?

No, you can’t. Your relationship plays an important role in your emotional life.

When you’re deeply in love with someone, you feel happy and good. You perform better and deliver greater jobs.

Conversely, when you are not doing well in your relationship, other areas of your life may suffer. You can’t concentrate on your work because all you think about is why someone you love has dumped you.

You will be mentally and emotionally affected by your love and relationship. And this is why it is important to build and grow an intimate relationship with people you care and interact with each day.

You want to have a good love life and build a good family so that the people who cared about you encourage and support you in whatever you do.

Here are some goals ideas you should consider setting to have a better love and relationship:

  • To make Saturday as a date day where you bring your love one for good dining.
  • Have Sunday as your family day where you only spend time with your family.
  • To plan ahead and give a surprise to your lover.
  • To spend at least two hours with your children every day after work.

3. Health and Fitness

health and fitness

The third important areas where you should focus on is none other than your health and fitness. Don’t get me wrong, your health is important. If you’re not feeling healthy, you can’t accomplish great things in life. It appears #3 has nothing to do with its importance.

I hope you know how important to keep yourself safe and healthy, especially when the health crisis hits.

Oftentimes, we take things for granted. When we’re healthy, we don’t care about our health. Most people eat junk foods, sleep late, drink and smoke like there’s no tomorrow. And I hope you’re not one of them.

But when we’re sick, when we have to lie on the bed to recover for a day or two, only then we know how important it is to keep ourselves healthy.

Apart from keeping yourself healthy, another metric you should keep an eye on is your sleep. Do you get enough sleep each day?

According to HealthGuide.com, an average adult requires 7 to 9 hours of sleep. We often take less sleep than the suggested hours. This is especially true when you’re still young.

But as you age, you will start to notice that your energy level started to deteriorate and you easily feel sleepy, even in the morning.

This is how important it is to keep ourselves healthy and fit. When you’re healthy and fit, you can perform at an optimal level. You have the energy to concentrate and do better.

But when you’re not feeling healthy, like if you are always sleepy because you watch binge Netflix until midnight, it will affect your work in the day.

In short, your health and fitness determine how productive you are. Thus, if you want to achieve more and be more productive, learn to take care of yourself.

Here are the goals suggestions you can set:

  • To sleep at least 7 hours a day.
  • Set an alarm to wind down and go to bed at 10 PM every night.
  • Get rid of the bad drinking habit. And quit smoking too.
  • To exercise for at least 30 minutes every day.
  • To meditate every morning at 7 AM for 15 minutes.

4. Personal Development

personal development

Another area where you need to set goals in is your personal development. This is the area that excites me the most. I love learning. And I constantly tell my readers, you, to strive for improvement.

Many people don’t set goals in this area, but this is the place you must focus on if you want to improve and become more successful in what you do.

In today’s world, you don’t need to go to college or university to acquire a skill. You can learn from someone who has done it and is sharing it on the internet.

There are plenty of courses are offered online and people are getting more and more conscious about learning and improving themselves.

If you don’t commit to learning and improving regularly, you will be soon become obsolete. You will be out of business. Your junior will overtake you in your job and when the tough time comes, your company will have to let you go because you are dispensable.

And the only way to make sure you are indispensable is to constantly upgrade yourself.

Just yesterday, I bought an online course about real estate investment. I read about 2 to 3 books every month and I make sure I attend a workshop or seminar at least once a year.

Here’s a good guide you should read:

Here are some personal development goals you can set:

  • Commit to spending at least 30 minutes into reading every day.
  • Attend a seminar or workshop at least once a year.
  • Invest in yourself like going through courses and learning how to improve yourself.
  • Learn a new skill every 3 months.

5. Fun and Experience

fun and experience

This is another area where most people neglect. You can’t live a good life if you’re not enjoying it, right?

A lot of people think that they should enjoy only after they have accomplished a certain level of success in life. I’m telling you that you should enjoy as you go along. Don’t delay joy and having fun in life.

One more thing is that fun and experience are goals that connect you with your soul. This is why they are important. You don’t want to just have sales goals or income goals. You want to have experience goals too.

Think about it, if you only pursue work and career in your life, do you truly live? What makes us tick in life is the experience and the journey that we’ve been through.

Therefore, you want to make your life interesting and worth living by setting some fun and experience goals that will make your life complete.

At the end of the day, it is the end goals that will make the best memories, not the means goals like how much money you have earned.

Here’s a very interesting article you should read from Steve Pavlina:

End Goals vs. Means Goals

And if you want to truly live and succeed on your terms, I strongly suggest you read this book from Vishen Lakhiani, the founder of Mindvalley:

Here are some questions you should ask yourself to better understand the goals you need to set in this area:

  • What kind of experience do you want to have in life?
  • What do you need to learn or what skill you need to acquire to become the person you want to be?
  • Do you want to travel the world and experience different cultures?
  • How can you make your everyday life fun and exciting? What must happen?

If you’re still unclear about what kind of goals you should set in this area, just get The Code of the Extraordinary Mind and read it.

6. Legacy and Contribution

legacy and contribution

You can’t live a fulfilling life without leaving a good legacy and contribute to the society and the world.

We all crave the feelings that we matter. Hence, set goals to contribute and leave your legacy too.

I know, it is difficult to think about helping others when you are the one who needed help. But trust me, once you set goals to help out, you will start to see things differently because you become selfless and started to have empathy for others.

And when you carried out your plan to help people, even if it is just buying some bread for the homeless, you will feel good. And this good feeling will make you grateful for everything you have in life.

One thing you need to understand is that when you help someone, even if it is a small act of kindness, not only that the person you help will change, but change happens to you too.

When you donate for those who needed, your feelings and emotions change. You feel that you have more to give in life. And that makes you feel like you are living in abundance.

And guess what, when you believe you have more, you will have more. Like what Oprah Winfrey said:

The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.

Examples of goals in this area:

  • To volunteer and help in the old folk’s home once every month.
  • To donate to those who needed it.
  • Join an organization and help people in need.
  • If you have the capability, consider setting up a non-profit and contribute to the world.
