Let’s be honest, the year 2020 is crazy. For most people, the first half of the year is difficult and full of challenges. But for some, especially those in the tech, logistics, and medical industries, they’ve experienced booming.
I believe that almost everyone’s career and business got affected. And hence, this is the time to reset your goals and restart the second half of the year.
In 1991, when I’m only 6 years old, I vividly remembered the then Prime Minister at that time announced a vision called for the nation to achieve a self-sufficient industrialized nation by the year 2020. It was called “Wawasan 2020” or Vision 2020. It was aimed to improve the livelihood and wellbeing of the whole of Malaysia, and to make the country a developed country.
But who would have expected that the year 2020 is challenging? People have gone through lockdown, stay at home, and to adopt the new normal of working from home.
Regardless, life still needs to go on. And we still need to pursue our goals and make our dreams a reality.
No matter what industry you’re in or what job you’re holding, this is the best moment to reset your goals and restart the second half of the year.
In fact, you don’t have a choice.
You either let go the rest of the year 2020 and wait for 2021 to come, or you can choose to do something about it and use what is left of 2020 and get yourself prepared for what’s coming.
Of course, choosing to let go of 2020 is a big waste of time and life. You still have about 5 to 6 months left.
Hence, the best option is to restart and make the most out of the remaining months.
I’m here to encourage and motivate you to recharge yourself, make new plans, and make the best use of the rest of your days and months left before the year 2020 end.
So, what can, or should you do? Here are a couple of suggestions…
1. Recalibrate your goals
Yes, this is the first thing you need to do. You have to check and recalibrate if your goals are still viable and able to proceed forward.
For example, if you are a travel blogger, I bet there will be a lot of changes coming up in your life. As you can’t travel for a while, you need to rethink what kind of content you can publish on your blog.
Even if you are not a travel blogger, your travel plan may have been canceled or postponed. Hence, you need to recalibrate your goals and come up with a new plan.
As for me, I’m a blogger and also an internet marketer. I believe that now is the best moment for me to strive and expand. This is why I’m planning to relaunch my master training program, Goal Setting Formula, with extra bonuses and shifting the entire course to a new platform.
What about you? What can you do to re-inject excitement and give new hope to your goals? Do you need to change your goals?
2. Tweak your plan
Next, tweak your plan. I believe most people are affected by the current situation. And we all need to change our gameplan if we want to continue to work or achieve the results we desire.
My wife has to change the way she works. Her boss told her she doesn’t need to get back to the office and can work from home if she wants to.
As a blogger, I used to work from home. And now with my wife joining the league, I have to change my plan. Like, I need to think about what to get for lunch for both of us. Before this, I worked alone, and I can simply get food for lunch.
What about you? I believe you too, need to change your plan a little bit.
If you changed your goals, you will definitely have to come up with a new plan. Remember, planning is important. You can’t have a goal without a plan.
A goal without a plan is like building a house without the main pillars supporting the roof.
To achieve your goals, you need to make plans. If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail. And planning doesn’t need to be complicated. You don’t need the latest tech to do your planning.

3. Change your schedule
Things are never going to be the same again. And that means, your life will change too. And with your life changes, so are your schedules.
Remember to organize your life around your goals, not the other way around. Always understand what your priorities are and work on the most important tasks first.
There is no way you can change your life without changing your schedules. What you choose to do on a daily basis decide what you get in your life.
Therefore, if you want to change your life, just focus on changing what you do every day.
And make sure you schedule and work on your goals each day. It doesn’t matter if you are going slow, as long as you are making progress, you will eventually get to your goal.
I keep a daily to-do list with me all the time. Every day, I will go through the list and if I have any appointment, I will also schedule it into my to-do list.
When I take a glance at my list, I know what I need to do and what are the upcoming tasks or projects I need to work on.
Having a to-do list makes me effective and proactive. Instead of waiting for things to come to me, I can be the one to make the move and tackle the project or task first.

4. Develop new sustainable daily habits
You can’t change your life or the rest of the year 2020 if you don’t change your habits of what you do every day. When you change your habits, you will change your results.
Thus, develop new sustainable daily habits that will support and help you reach your goals. For instance, my wife has to adapt to the new normal of working from home, only going to the office when she needs to.
I believe most people are affected. And we need to develop new habits that are productive and sustainable. This is especially true if your work environment changes and you have to work from home and meeting with Zoom.
Changing your habits and developing productive ones can be one of the most rewarding things you can do during these times.
When we talk about building habits, the best way to do is to use the strategies shared by James Clear. He explained it in detailed steps in his book, Atomic Habits.
5. Plan new adventures
I know, some of you may have to stay at home and you can’t go anywhere. But in Malaysia, we can go out and things are going back to normal. Cars are everywhere now, and we are encouraged to travel locally.
You can’t travel overseas and most people will never want to do that during this period. Hence, the best way to recharge yourself and explore the world is to start it locally.
I bet there are still many places in your local neighborhood that you’re yet to visit. Perhaps, there are new restaurants that you don’t know. And perhaps, you should visit the museum that you have never been to before.
Plan some new adventures. Make your life interesting and worth living. Although you can’t travel overseas, it is alright too if you can travel locally.
Once or twice a month, plan for a short getaway trip. Get close to nature and go outdoor (when it is allowed).
6. Stick to your project and plan till the end
There are only a few months left before the year 2020 end. You will want to stick to your plan until the end.
When you start a project and finish it in the next 6 months, it will build your momentum and prepare for yourself for the new year.
Plus, rather than remembering 2020 just as chaos, when you reach your goals in the second half of the year, it makes you remember your hard work and the rewards you get.
Whether it is to write a book, to learn to play the piano, to learn a new language, or to start an e-commerce business, you can make huge progress in the next 6 months.
Therefore, don’t let the second half of the year go wasted. Set a goal and then stick to it.
If you can achieve great success in the next 6 months, imagine what you can achieve in the following years.
This is the best time to step outside of your comfort zone, to challenge yourself, and to achieve something remarkable in your life.
I suggest you take my course, Goal Setting Formula, and learn how to improve yourself, achieve real results, and live a better life through setting empowering goals.
I strongly recommend you take my course: Goal Setting Formula. You will learn how to find out what you want to achieve, take charge of your life, and achieve real success through setting empowering goals.
7. Contribute and donate
Yes, things can be bad now. The economy may seem to be weak and the future can be uncertain. But if you can make it through if you have something to spare, it is always a wise choice to help out those who are in need.
Contribute and donate. You may be doing well, but it doesn’t mean that everyone is doing well too. And the best way to help the society and the world is to donate a portion of what you earned.
I’m a believer that what you have learned, you should teach. And what you have earned, you should donate.
Of course, I’m not asking you to be extreme here. You don’t have to donate all that you have. Just start with a small and comfortable amount.
Or if you don’t have much to spare, volunteer your time and effort. This is the time when the world needs to stand together and stay strong.
