You may or may not have heard of John Assaraf, but he was one of my early mentors in the personal development industry.
John Assaraf is an entrepreneur, the founder of NeuroGym, an expert who focuses on brain re-training. He has also been featured on Larry King Live, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and more.
I first learned about John Assaraf from his experience with vision boards. Check this article to learn more about how John Assaraf used vision boards and changed his life.
After I learned about John, I bought his best-selling book, Having It All. And I love the book a lot. Eventually, I bought almost all of his books, including The Answer (a book he co-authored with Murray Smith), and Innercise, a book about unlocking your brain’s hidden power.
Even to this day, I still followed John closely and am still learning from him.
John Assaraf is truly an inspirational figure to me. He is one of the few that inspired me to change my life and live my life according to my own terms.
Therefore, I strongly suggest you learn directly from John himself. He is having a free webinar training called Change Your Brain, Change Your Income. You can register for it for free. And trust me, John always overdeliver. And you will love his teachings.
So, are you ready to get inspired? Here are the 13 most inspiring quotes from John Assaraf…
1. “Ability is what you are capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.”
Yes, to live a successful life and to achieve your dreams and goals, you need to have these 3 requirements:
- Ability or skills to do perform at your best,
- Motivation to put yourself into action, and
- Attitude that determines how well you do it.
Without these 3 fundamental requirements, it will be difficult to achieve success in life.
Therefore, make sure you always work on improving your ability and skills to become the best at what you do.
And of course, make sure you motivate yourself every day to take massive action to create the success you want.
And finally, develop the attitude that you will do your best to become the best.
2. “I was told that if you work hard, bust your butt, go to school, and get great grades, you’d do well in life. That’s a bunch of crap. Today we have better information about how the universe operates and how we operate.”
Being born to a typical Asian family, my parents keep telling me to study well, get good grades, become a doctor or a lawyer or an engineer, and get a good job. Because my job will give me good pay, and I will live a good life.
Well, I did study well and I graduated with a degree in civil engineering.
However, it all depends on what kind of life you want to live. Getting good grades in school and having a job does not mean that you will become successful in life.
It all depends on your definition of success. And if your goal is to become financially free, having a job may not help much.
This is why I read self-help books. I wanted to be financially free and live a great life. And I started to study how successful people did it. And that’s how I came across books from John Assaraf.
Today, I’m a full-time internet marketer and I’m making a living from home. I’m my own boss and I’m happy about it.
So, it has nothing to do with your grades in school, but everything to do with your beliefs, mindset, habits, and attitudes. This is why improving yourself is so important. Register for John’s training here.
3. “If you’re interested, you will do what is convenient; if you’re committed, you’ll do whatever it takes.”
This is so true. Think about all the goals you gave up on and all the projects you have quitted on. Why do you give up and quit?
The answer is simple – you’re not committed to them.
And that’s what happened to most people. They want to live a successful life. They want to live big, drive luxury cars, live in big villas, travel first class, give their family the best, and never worry about paying bills anymore.
But too bad, most people are not committed to their dreams and goals. They are interested to achieve success, but they are not committed to it.
This is why when things become tough, they quit. And when they lack motivation, they procrastinate and put off their dreams.
So, ask yourself, are you interested? Or are you committed?

4. “Be very careful what you say to yourself because someone very important is listening . . . YOU!”
You become what you think about most of the time. What you constantly tell yourself in your head will become a part of your life.
This is why you want to be careful of what you say to yourself because you will condition it into your subconscious mind.
Do you constantly worry about things? Do you always think about problems rather than solutions? If you do, guess what, you will have more problems and worries.
Why? Because those are the things you focus on. And what you focus on, grows.
Thus, from now on, choose to think about the things you want. Rather than worrying about the problems, think about the possibilities of success, focus on solutions, and imagine good things coming to you.

5. “Emotions are yours and you can learn to release them like freeing a bird from its cage.”
One of the main reasons people procrastinate and fail to accomplish their goals is because they are being controlled by their emotions.
If your goal is to hit the gym and get back in shape. Do you only exercise when you feel like it? And when you don’t feel like exercising, are you going to procrastinate?
Most people are all about emotions. They do things only when they feel like it.
They started a blog or a YouTube channel. They have big goals for what they do. But, the problem is that they only take action when they are motivated to do so.
They only create the content for their blogs or YouTube channels when they feel like it.
Never let this happens to you. Release your emotions and focus on the system instead.
Extraordinary people choose to do it even when they don’t feel like it. Just like what Muhammad Ali once said:
“I hated every minute of training, but I said, ‘Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.’”
6. “Here’s the problem. Most people are thinking about what they don’t want, and they’re wondering why it shows up over and over again.”
Again, stop focus on what you DON’T want. Because when you do that, you are creating attention for the things that you DON’T want.
As explained by the Law of Attraction, you will get more of what you focus on.
And when you focus on things that you DON’T want, you get more of it. This is why people often say you will become what you think about most of the time.
Choose to actively and consciously think and focus on the things you want. This is why I suggest you write down your goals every day and practice visualization.
See yourself making progress and reaching your goals. You will feel inspired and attract the results into your life.

7. “Plant your seeds. Water them. Do your part as best as you can. The Universe will do its part perfectly every time, no exceptions.”
You don’t have to worry about getting the results or success you desire. All you need to do is to focus on your part. Because the universe will do its part.
You see, success is not going to happen through accidents. Success will ONLY happen through planning and taking action.
- When you exercise, you will have a fit and healthy body.
- When you constantly publish new videos and improve their qualities, your channel will grow.
- When you write and publish on your blog constantly, your readership will grow, provided you improve on your skills.
As you can see, all you need to do is to do your part. And results will come.
8. “Whatever you believe about yourself on the inside, is what will manifest on the outside.”
Your beliefs will shape your life. If you don’t believe in something, like your goals, you will never bother taking action.
Even if you do take action on your goal, if you don’t believe your goal is possible, you will only put in the half-hearted effort. You will never go all out.
Think about buying a lottery ticket. People believe they stand a chance to win, that’s why they buy the ticket in the first place. If you don’t believe you are lucky enough to win the lottery, you will never bother buying a ticket.
Do you get it? Your beliefs dictate what you do in life.
This is why you want to believe your goals are possible and you have the capability to achieve them.
Without a strong belief system to support you and your dream, you will fail.
Hence, build a strong belief system that empowers you in life. Learn how to do it from John Assaraf here.
9. “Are you a hoarder of more negative thoughts or positive ones? Whichever ones you hoard, grow into trees and then forests.”
There’s a famous story circulated in the personal development industry…
An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”
He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”
The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”
Yes, you can feed your mind with positive thoughts or negative ones. And remember, whatever thoughts you feed your mind, you will become.
Meaning, if you constantly feed your mind with negativity, you will live a negative and mediocre life.
On the contrary, if you constantly feed your mind with positivity and possibility, you will live a great and successful life.
10. “We can have whatever it is we choose, I don’t care how big it is. You become what you think about, but you also attract what you think about most.”
This is why it is important to think and dream big. You are going to be thinking anyway, why don’t think big so that your thought will inspire you, right?
Too many of us are playing small. We thought that we can never live big and become successful. And that’s why we are living our own prophecy.
Remember, everything is created twice. Once in your mind, and once in reality.
Meaning, if you want to turn your dreams into reality, you must first manifest them in your mind.
See the success you want, and ONLY then you can create it in your life.

11. “It is said that it takes 10,000 hours to develop mastery and excellence. How many hours have you clocked today on your passion?”
The 10,000-Hour Rule was made famous by Malcolm Gladwell. Gladwell said in his best-selling book, Outliers, that the key to achieving true expertise in any skill is simply a matter of practicing for at least 10,000 hours.
If you look at all the extraordinary people, Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, Kobe Bryant, Tiger Woods, Muhammad Ali, Bruce Lee, etc., you will notice they all fulfilled the 10,000-Hour Rule.
They have been practicing and doing in their field for decades, and that is why they are successful.
Think about my favorite football player, Lionel Messi. Many people think that he is talented, but most people fail to notice the hard work and training he had poured in.
This was what he said in one of his commercials:
“I start early and I stay late, day after day, year after year, it took me 17 years and 114 days to become an overnight success.”
Success takes time. And you need to put in a lot of hours to practice, train, and improve so that you can become the best in your industry.
12. “The strongest factor for success is self-esteem: Believing you can do it, believing you deserve it, believing you will get it.”
Do you believe you can do it, deserve it, and you will get it? If you don’t, you won’t get the success you desire.
Most people lack self-esteem. This is why they don’t believe they have what it takes to achieve the success they desire.
They don’t have the confidence to think that they can live a great life or that they deserve something better.
If you want to succeed in life, heed John Assaraf’s advice, develop self-esteem, and believe that you can do it, deserve it, and so you will get it.
Check out this guide on building self-esteem.
13. “If you do not master the art of self-discipline – you will succumb to the emotions and reality of regret.”
Most people don’t have the self-discipline to stick to their goals and plans. They have goals and they plan to do the work, but the problem is they don’t actually do the work.
Most people are dreamers, not doers. Because they lack self-discipline. So don’t be like most people.
Instead, learn to develop self-discipline. Build the habits that will make you productive. Create a system and believe in yourself.
See yourself achieving the success you want. And most importantly, develop the character and become the person who takes action and is worthy of the success you want.
