There are many factors of success – luck, opportunity, timing, background, connections, etc. – but one of the most underrated is self-belief. No matter what kind of success you desire, you must fully believe in it before you can achieve it. This is why it is important to believe in yourself.
“If you believe you can, you probably can. If you believe you won’t, you most assuredly won’t. Belief is the ignition switch that gets you off the launching pad.”
Denis Waitley
You see, your mind plays a huge part in determining your success in life. As Henry Ford famously said, “Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re right.”
When you believe you can do it, you are more likely to take action and create the results you want. On the other hand, when you don’t believe in yourself, you certainly won’t take action because you know it’s not going to work, right?
Here’s an example I always shared. Think about winning the lottery or hitting the jackpot. Why do people buy the lottery? Well, because they believe they stand a chance to win, right?
If they don’t believe they stand a chance to win, there’s no way they will buy the tickets. Why bother buying the lottery when you don’t think you have the chance to win, isn’t it?
And it is the same in everything you do in life. If you want to achieve greater success, you must choose to believe in yourself. Because if you don’t, you will never bother taking action or doing something about it.
Do you get that? Here are 5 reasons why it is important to believe in yourself…
As explained above, when you don’t believe something is possible, you will never do it. But when you truly believe that you can succeed, you will do everything you can to make it happen.
That’s the power of self-belief.
Here’s a classic self-belief example that has been circulating in the personal development industry…
For years, doctors and scientists both agreed that it was physically impossible for humans to run a mile in 4 minutes.
But on May 6, 1954, a man named Roger Bannister did the unthinkable and broke the 4-minute barrier. He completed a mile run in just 3:59.4. But what was even more astonishing was a year after that, a few more other runners managed to accomplish the same and even broke Bannister’s record.
All it takes was a man to challenge the belief and did the impossible, all of a sudden, the impossible doesn’t seem so ‘impossible’ anymore.
This is why you want to believe in yourself. You see, when you don’t something is possible, you will never consider doing it because deep down, you know it is impossible to achieve.
But when you started to believe in yourself, things will change. You started to see a glimpse of hope, and you tell yourself, “Hey, maybe I can do this.” And so you started to take action.
You put in more effort, and you learn how it works. You improve yourself and you become more confident. And guess what, you did it. You achieved the success you want. You completed the ‘impossible’ project. You accomplished your goals.
That’s how success is created. But for success to happen, you must first believe that you can do it.

This is another reason why it is important to believe in yourself. When you do, you will motivate yourself into taking massive action.
Think about how the Wright brothers invented the airplane. Nobody believed humans could fly, but because the Wright brothers believed it was possible, they chose to experiment and test their ideas. Eventually, they succeed. They invented airplanes.
I’m sure you’ve seen videos of how they designed the models and created the first airplane in the world.
Now, what if the Wright brothers didn’t believe they could make it? What do you think may happen? Perhaps, there are no airplanes in today’s world.
The same goes for Thomas Edison who invented the light bulb. If Edison did not believe he could do it, he would never bother testing over 10,000 materials just to find the right one that worked.
When you truly believe you can do it, you will take massive action.

Do you do things with a half-hearted attempt? Or do you go all out and put in 100% commitment to achieve your goals and dreams?
That’s the difference between successful people and unsuccessful people. You see, successful people believe in themselves. They may not have all the answers, but they believe in themselves and that’s why they are 100% committed.
Arnold Schwarzenegger believed he could win the bodybuilding contest and that was what motivated him to run away from the army to attend the contest, and won! He knew he could do it, so he did.
Think about it, if Elon Musk doubted himself, do you think he’d started SpaceX or Tesla? He won’t.
When you truly believe in yourself, your action shows. You will become committed and you will do whatever it takes to get there.
On the contrary, unsuccessful people doubted themselves. They don’t truly believe they can do it. And hence, they don’t put in 100%, and guess what, they won’t get 100% of the results they want.
And when they don’t get the results they want, they tell themselves, “See, I told you it won’t work.”
Can you see the difference now? So, if you want to achieve success in life, you must choose to believe in yourself.

This is another benefit you will get when you believe in yourself. Because when you believe in yourself, you will become more confident, as a result, the way you speak, walk, breathe, and everything you do shows.
And that’s when people, resources, and opportunities will be attracted to you.
Your outer world is the projection of your inner world. That means, that if you don’t have the confidence, your action and your body language will show. The same goes with self-belief.
When you don’t believe in yourself, it will show through everything you do. This is why successful people network with other successful people. They shared the same beliefs. And their actions show.
Les Brown said it well, “If you want to fly with the eagles, then stop swimming with the ducks.” But before you can do so, you must believe that you can fly.
The good news is that your beliefs and your actions impact each other. When you acted confident, your self-belief strengthens. And when you believe in yourself, your action shows.
Thus, if you want to have more opportunities, better resources, and more success, choose to believe in yourself and trust that you can make it.

“The first step is you have to say that you can.”
Will Smith
Think about it, if you don’t believe in yourself, who else would? It all begins with what you believe you can do.
If you believe you are destined for big success, you will start to work your way there. But if you don’t, you will never bother even trying.
Think about pursuing your goals and dreams, do you believe 100% that you can do it? Because if you don’t, you will never make it.
Here’s a good example. Think about you are trying to build a successful business and you are trying to convince a group of investors to invest in your business.
Now, if you don’t believe in yourself or your business is going to work, do you think you can convince others to do so? The answer is obvious.
It is the same in everything you do in life. If you want to build a successful blog, you must first believe you can do it, and then put in 100% hard work to grow the blog. Readers will notice and they will start to follow you.
The same goes with achieving any goals or anything you want in life. You must first choose to believe in yourself, and only then others will believe in you.
