3 Tips How to Maintain Your Motivation for Your Side Hustle

It is becoming more and more popular to have a side hustle. The possibilities vary from food delivery to working as a freelance graphic designer. It is not unusual to see people start a side hustle, and ended up becoming super successful with what they do.

Do you know that an 8-year old who reviews toys on YouTube is making $22 million a year? His channel, RyanToysReview, has become one of the most successful and profitable channels on YouTube.

Have you heard about bloggers like Jeff Goins, James Clear, and Darren Rowse? They started as bloggers, and through blogs, they built a successful business out of it.

Of course, building a successful side hustle isn’t something easy.

At first, the motivation to start a side project and earn some extra money is at its peak. Especially at the moment when you dream about the endless possibilities and how much more you can accomplish with what you do.

But it isn’t always an easy journey. As you progress through, many actually fail and give up on their side projects.

Think about it, if building a profitable side hustle is easy, no one will be working. Everyone will become their own boss and working for themselves.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that you can’t do it, but instead, I want to be straight up telling you that mistakes, failures, and challenges are inevitable on your journey to building your side hustle.

And in this article, I want to share with you 3 tips on how you can maintain your motivation and keep your drive until you build the successful and profitable side project that you desire. Here are the 3 tips…

1. Get Results Fast

Things are easy and you can have all the motivation you need when you are seeing results.

When I was working in the sales industry, the turnover rate for the company is high. Those who left were those who didn’t manage to close any sales. And those who continued with the company were those who got results and got sales.

Results are motivating. Guess what will happen when you work hard for 3 months and you have nothing to show for?

You’ll lose hope and all the interest you have in the side project. This is why you want to aim at getting results, fast.

Take e-commerce as an example. An eCommerce business can be successful and inspiring. And more and more young people take a chance to pursue their passion and become a business owner.

It is both a great experience and an effective way to earn some extra money. And with time, it becomes easier and easier to open your own online store.

The biggest problem with motivation is when you have zero technical skills yet you have to do everything on your own. Imagine you have to design your e-commerce website from scratch and do everything from zero.

It saps your energy and motivation because it is a big challenge for you. After 3 months of learning how to build a website, you’re still not seeing any success. As a result, you lose all your drive on your side hustle. Sound familiar?

But you can also easily solve this problem through automation and tools. For instance, you can outsource order fulfillment through Printify, you can hire a freelancer to design your logo and product covers, you can set up e-stores using Shopify and more.

The point is that you want to make the progress of getting results as smooth and as fast as possible.

You want to shorten the learning curve by using tools and getting help from others. If you are trying to do everything by yourself, you’re going to waste a lot of your energy figuring out how to do it, which will make you lose your motivation.

One more thing, to get results fast, you need to follow a proven path. You don’t want to try out things to see if they work.

Instead, you want to follow a proven system where there are step-by-step instructions you can follow. If you do that, you will get results fast. And this will motivate and keep you driven to build and grow your side project to a higher level.

2. Pick a Niche You’re Passionate About

The only possible way to stay motivated and successful on your side job is to love and enjoy it. Otherwise, you might feel fine doing the job at first, but later comes the feeling that you are forcing yourself.

You will start to slack and become so unmotivated, and, in such situations, a job often becomes torture. And you don’t want that to happen.

To avoid all those negative emotions, always choose to do what you like. For example, I love personal development stuff and I like to inspire people to achieve their dreams. Hence, I started a blog and it is my passion that drives me to continue to write and publish.

If I don’t like to share personal development stuff, do you think I will have all the energy and motivation to write and continue to do so for 5 years? I don’t think so.

This is how successful bloggers started. James Clear has an intense passion for human psychology and Jeff Goins loves writing. And Darren Rowse wrote on his blog post that passion is what binds it all together and makes a blog click.

During an interview with Steve Jobs, he said that one reason he is successful is because of passion. According to Jobs, being successful is hard and challenging, and this is why those who are not passionate about will quit and give up. Only those who are passionate will continue to do what they love, and, in the end, they succeeded.

Passion may not be the ultimate key to success for your side project, but trust me, without having a strong and intense passion for it, you will find the journey difficult and torturous.

But with passion, things become easy. Problems become challenges that drive you. Mistakes become your learning ground.

Thus, pick a niche or a side business that you are passionate about.

3. Focus on the System

Having a goal is important, but when it comes to creating results, you need to focus on the system, not the goal. A system is what gets you the results.

For example, I’d love to build a successful and profitable blog. But I can’t just sit there and think about it. If I do that, nothing is going to happen. What I need to do then is to focus on the system that gets me the results.

And the system is creating and publishing quality content, having a plan for marketing and the promotion of my blog, and working on growing my blog every day. That’s the system.

Unfortunately, most people fail to create the results they desire because all they do is focus on the goals. They don’t work on the system. All they do is they think and daydream about having a successful side hustle. But they’re not doing anything about it.

Imagine if you want to get back in shape and have 6-pack abs. That is your goal. But you need a system (a workable plan) too.

Say, you commit to exercising for an hour in the gym 3 times a week. What you need to do then, is to make sure you stick to your system of working out in the gym for an hour 3 times a week.

If you do that, you will eventually reach your goal of getting back in shape and having 6-pack abs. Do you get that?

It doesn’t matter what you want to achieve, you need to focus on the system.

And when you focus on the system and made progress, you will feel good. You will start to see results because you are making progress. And this will keep your motivation going until you reach your goal.

Therefore, don’t focus on what you want out of your side hustle, instead, focus on the system that will make you side hustle successful.

Go here to learn how to turn your goals into an actionable plan.

Conclusion

These 3 tips are powerful, and they will make sure you can maintain your motivation throughout your journey of building the successful side hustle you desire.

Remember, get results fast by following a proven plan and using tools and automation. Boost your drive by getting into a niche or a business that you’re passionate about. And then create a system and focus on that system so that you can make progress and create guaranteed results.
