People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.
Zig Ziglar
Getting yourself motivated and inspired every day and all year round is a real challenge. A lot of people say that they fail to stick to their plan and take consistent action on their goals because they don’t have the motivation.
While it is true that motivation is one important factor that determines what you do and why you do, do not allow it to become an excuse for why you can’t.
Instead, choose to do something about your motivation. Choose to manage your mood, your state, your energy, and your motivational level.

As motivational speaker Wayne Dyer once said:
Be miserable. Or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done, it’s always your choice.
Wayne Dyer
Successful people are able to work on their dreams consistently for years not because they did not suffer the lack of motivation, but they understand that motivation doesn’t last and they do something about it.
And this is exactly what this article is all about. I have listed 52 motivation tips to help you pump yourself up, stay on track, and keep your momentum going.
These motivation tips are not ranked in any order. Most importantly, they are easy to implement and you can apply them to your life right away. Check them out…
People often fail to find motivation because they are being vague. They have no idea what they want and what they need to do, hence, the lack of clarity causes them to lose their direction and motivation.
If your goal is to become rich, how much do you want? What is the annual income you’re looking into?
If your goal is to become happy, ask yourself what has to happen in order for you to feel happy?
When something is vague, you can’t work on it. You can’t hit a target that you can’t see.
Hence, turn your goals or tasks into something that you can act on, something you can measure and something you can actually do.
The more specific the outcomes you want, the easier it is for your brain to come up with creative plans and solutions to get there. Set yourself up to win by being specific.

Focusing on big goals can make you feel overwhelming. And you can overcome this by chunking your goals and tasks into smaller actionable steps that you can act on right away.
Writing 1,000 words article can be difficult, so chunk it down by focusing on creating the draft, the subheadings, or just start with writing 100 words.
The same goes for every other area of your life. Running a full marathon can be challenging, so just start with running for a mile. The key is to get you into motion and build up the momentum.
The key is to reduce the resistance for doing the action. Hence, commit to the minimum so that you can build up momentum and grow bigger.

Do you have someone to keep an eye on your progress? Without being accountable for what you do, there is a higher chance that you may procrastinate and delay the task. Find an accountability partner to keep you on track.
If you want to have the motivation to exercise and lose weight, the best way to do so is to get a partner to exercise together.
Thus, identify who are your potential accountability partners. Choose one of them, contact them, tell them your plan, and start working on your goals together.

One of the easiest motivation tips is to read success stories and books. If you are running a business and are facing tough times, read stories of how successful entrepreneurs went through similar situations, and bounced back, you will be inspired by their stories.
This is why I commit to reading at least a book each month. If you have no idea what to read, check out my list of top 10 success books here.
On average, I read about 2-3 books in a month. And I can tell you that it is one of my secrets to staying motivated all the time.
There are plenty of benefits of deep breathing, and one of them is to boost your energy level and lower your stress. Sometimes it is difficult to get motivated when you are feeling stressed. So practice deep breathing to recharge your energy and alertness.
You can learn the belly breathing technique here or use the power breathing technique from Tony Robbins here.
The deep breathing method is easy to practice and you can do it any time of the day. Do it whenever you need to relax your mind, refocus, and recharge your energy and get motivated again.
The best way to stay motivated is to get a coach or a mentor. Do you know that all of the successful people out there have mentors or coaches to guide them in life?
“Steve, thank you for being a mentor and a friend. Thanks for showing that what you build can change the world. I will miss you.”
Get yourself a mentor or a coach. Not only that you will benefit and learn from those who are already successful, but you will also be inspired and driven by them.
Affirmations work just like pep-talk. In sports, you can often see players often gather around and do some pump-up shouts. It works the same as affirmations. It is just that with affirmations, you are doing it by yourself.
Regardless of whether you shout it out loud or you repeat your affirmations inside your head, it doesn’t matter. All that matters is that you have to keep repeating until you feel the motivation coming to you.
Practicing affirmations require you to feel the energy. Don’t just do the affirmations, feel them.

Asking yourself questions is one of the most effective motivation tips to boost your mood and also help you refocus on your goals.
When you ask a question in your head, your mind will seek answers. If you ask lousy questions like “Why does this always happen to me?” Your mind will tell you exactly why it happens to you. So ask positive and uplifting questions. Here are some examples:

Imagination and visualization play an important role in your motivation. When you imagine living your dream life, having a vacation in Hawaii, driving your dream car, etc, you feel good and you want to take action right away.
So make good use of visualization and imagine the success you want. See yourself as if you are already living your dream life and have accomplished all your goals.

The key here is to boost your motivation and confidence. When you do the easy tasks first, you put yourself into motion. You build up the momentum and the moment you see yourself getting things done, you will have more motivation to tackle other tasks.
Some people suggest you tackle the difficult ones first. It all depends on the situation. If you are highly motivated, then yes, by all means, do the difficult tasks first so that you can feel the accomplishment.
However, if you are finding it difficult to start and take initiative to work, do the small and easy tasks first to build your motivation.

Reverse-gap thinking is powerful. Instead of thinking how far you are from the future you want, think about how far you have come and how much you have accomplished. In other words, think about your previous victories and achievements, and how much you have done.
When you see how much you have achieved and how far you have come, it makes you feel satisfied and uplifting.
You don’t have to wait until you achieved your goals only to give yourself a reward, the moment you take action, you can reward yourself.
For instance, you can reward yourself with a short break after you have written a 500 words article. You can reward yourself with your favorite beverage once you have done your exercise session. Create many small rewards to motivate you to take action.

Don’t just write down your goals and put them away, instead, write them down and revisit them every day. This is what most people never do, and they wonder why they don’t have the motivation and why they fail to achieve their goals.
You must condition yourself to achieve your goals. And to do this, you must remind yourself of your goals. Whatever that is out of your sight, will be out of your mind.
Goal setting is not a one-time work. You don’t just write down your goals once and then forget about them. You want to get engaged with your goals and connect with them every day.
So write down your goals, and revisit them. Look at them daily. You can write down your goals every day if you want to.

One of the reasons people are not feeling motivated is because they lack energy. How can you perform at your best if you have no energy? And in order to have more energy, you must stay active and move your body.
Exercise, my friend. Like what other successful people did. They wake up early and make exercise part of their morning habit.

Michael Hyatt writes in his blog:
Power naps restore your alertness, boost your energy, and prevent burnout. Of course, when you are energetic, you will have the motivation.
I take power nap quite regularly too. Usually, I will take a 15 or 20 minutes nap in the afternoon after lunch. I feel totally awake and energetic to take on my goals again after the nap. You should try it.
Of all the motivation tips listed here, this one is my favorite. I just love drinking coffee. But please, I don’t drink 10 cups a day, I drink just one cup of coffee each morning.
Every morning, around 9AM, I will make a cup of coffee, enjoy it while writing articles, just like this one. While some people may say that drinking too much coffee can be bad for their health, but I’m not suggesting you over drink it.
You can also replace tea with coffee too.
Why do you want to achieve your goals? Your purpose is important because, without a strong reason to support you, you will never have the motivation to do it. Tony Robbins once said:
“People are not lazy. They simply have impotent goals – that is, goals that do not inspire them.”
Tony Robbins
Your goals must be exciting so that you will be inspired to take action to achieve them.
Most people find it difficult to come up with motivation because they don’t really want to accomplish their goals. To them, it is alright even if they did not achieve their goals. They can still survive and life still goes on.
So find strong and emotional reasons for your goals. Why do you want to do it? Why are your goals important? When you have strong and emotional reasons to support you, nothing can stop you.

Studies have discovered that when people put their goals into schedules, there is a higher chance that they are going to take action and make it.
For example, if your goal is to go jogging three times a week, you can put it into a schedule such as, “I will go jogging for an hour every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and I will jog from 7 AM to 8 AM.”
Schedules are specific. They contain the exact time and place to trigger you to take action. When you say that you are going to write a 1,000 words article at 9 AM, when the clock hits 9 AM, your mind will tell you that you should do it.
The more specific you are, the more likely you are going to do it. So turn your goals into schedules.
One of the most powerful techniques to get things done is through time-blocking. Learn it below:

Do I need to explain more on this? There are so much great music and songs that can inspire us. You just need to find the ones that will connect with your soul and drive you.
I often play uplifting background music when I’m writing articles. Even right now, I’m turning to YouTube and am listening to “Everdream” by Epic Soul Factory. Just search on YouTube and you will find it.
You can also create your own playlist of uplifting songs while doing your work. It makes your work fun and at the same time, motivates you to take action.
I first learned about this rule from James Clear. You should read his blog post to understand better.
Basically, what this rule is saying is that you must make the task not overly difficult and not too easy. You have to make the task “just right” so that you will feel the challenge and want to do it.
Playing a tennis game with a 6-year-old is too easy. There will be no fun and you will not enjoy the game. At the same time, having a match with a professional player is too difficult. You can’t score and you can’t win. You will quickly lose your motivation to play.
However, playing with someone who is about the same level as you gives you the most motivation. You win a few points and you lose a few points. Both players have almost the same opportunity to win. And that’s what makes the game fun and exciting.
The same goes for every other area of your life. Just apply the Goldilocks’ Rule and make the task excited so that you will feel motivated to take action.
This is a common motivation tip that people have shared all over. Yes, when you associate yourself with successful and positive people, their thinking will influence you and you will become like them.
On the other hand, if you mix around with negative people, you will become negative too. So be careful with who you choose to spend your time with.
Whenever you are not feeling motivated, just call someone positive who will support you. Let their energy impact you and drive you forward.
Social media is a very powerful tool in today’s world. It is a double-edged sword. You can use it to motivate you or it can also be an extremely distracting tool that takes your attention away.
In my Facebook account, I try to follow successful people and people who I want to become. And at the same time, I unfollow those who I believe are not helping me in achieving my goals, including some friends who often share unrelated or negative news.
Here are some great people you should follow: Les Brown, Zig Ziglar, Nick Vujicic, Tony Robbins, Jim Rohn, Robin Sharma, and more.
You can also follow inspiring pages like Goalcast, TED-Ed, Lessons Learned In Life Inc., Stunning Motivation (like our page if you haven’t done so), etc.
Just like what I mentioned before, whatever that is out of your sight, will be out of your mind. This is why vision boards work. And the same reason applies to motivational and inspirational posters.
Whenever you see uplifting posters on the wall, they remind you of your goals and what you need to get done. And thus, these vision-triggers will drive you into taking action.
Create vision boards for all the goals you want to achieve in life. Use your vision boards to trigger your goals and keep you on track.
Practicing gratitude every day helps you adjust your thinking little by little. You become less prone to sweating the small stuff and appreciate what you have in life. Gratitude changes the way you think and the way you approach working.
You will feel more content because you start to appreciate and grateful for all that you have. And this, my friend, is the biggest motivator of all. If you want to learn how to practice gratitude, read this article.
Gratitude is the ultimate wealth. If you are grateful for what you have, you are wealthy. If you are not grateful, you will never feel enough even if you have a million dollars in the bank.
Plus, the more you are thankful for what you have, the more you will have it. As what Oprah Winfrey famously said:
The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.
Oprah Winfrey
Don’t just depend on motivation because motivation comes and goes. Motivation is a feeling, and that means there will days when you feel totally fire up and there are also days you feel like a slump.
So, develop good habits. When a behavior becomes a habit, you will need less willpower to execute it. Think about brushing your teeth every morning, how much energy and willpower do you need? You don’t need a lot of motivation to brush your teeth, right?
Therefore, turn your actions into your habits. When something becomes a habit, you don’t really need so much motivation to do it. You will just do, automatically.
Want to learn about changing and growing success habits? Read this book:
What are the things that when you see it, it will trigger you to take action? For example, vision boards, inspirational posters, books, a photo of your family or children, your dream house, etc.
Action triggers are the things that will trigger you into taking action. When you see the new running shoe you just bought, it makes you want to go for a run. When you see the new golf club, it triggers you to want to play golf.
Create the action triggers to help drive you into taking action.
One of the best motivation tips is to make good use of the environment and the surroundings you are in. You want to make things convenient and easy so that you will want to take action.
When things are convenient, you need less motivation to execute. You take the resistance out of the game.
If you want to go for jogging tomorrow morning, prepare your clothes and put your shoe at the entrance tonight. If you want to write and publish an article on your blog the first thing in the morning, you can make your blog the homepage of your browser.
The opposite can be done to get rid of bad habits. If you want to watch less TV, make it difficult to do so by unplugging the TV or turn the TV around. If you want to eat less, use smaller plates for your food.
Just be creative and use the flow to either lower or increase the resistance.
Some people call these a commitment device. Check out this article to learn more.
Planning may not work out perfectly, but having a plan is much better than having no plan at all.
Every night before I sleep, I will update my notebook and write down the things that I need to get done the next day. And I can tell you this action alone has increased my productivity a lot.
The key is to tell your mind what you need to get done so that you will never forget about them. Hence, write down your to-do list every day.

Have you read about the Pomodoro Technique? If you haven’t, read this article. It is a technique to schedule breaks into your workday.
For instance, you work for 30 minutes and take a 5 minutes break. And then you repeat the process a couple of times before you go for a longer break. This method is powerful because it helps conserve and restore your energy, and at the same time, prevent burnout.
You charge your phone every day, right? So why don’t you do that to yourself?

One of the reasons people fail to follow their plan is because they did not track their progress. How can you tell if you are making progress, moving forward or backward when you don’t track your progress?
In sports, you can see there is always a huge scoreboard to track the score. The scoreboard tells the players if they are winning or losing, how much time left, and more importantly, the scoreboard tells the players/teams there’s a competition going on.
Thus, create a scoreboard to track your progress. Read this article to understand more.
One of the best ways to build up your motivation is to turn the work into a competition. In the sales industry, a company usually will send out sales charts or weekly or monthly top sales to spice up the competition.
Of course, there will be prizes to win and there are rewards too. This is to encourage salespeople in the company to work harder. This is an example of the classic “carrot and stick” method to boost employee’s motivation, it works to a certain extent.
You can apply the same principle to boost your motivation as well. Make it a competition. Try to invite others into the game too. When the competition is on, everyone wants to win.

Another effective method to get things done is to use time-blocking. I first came across this idea from Gary Keller, the best-selling author for the best-selling book, The ONE Thing, a productivity book that I strongly recommend everyone reading.
When you time-block a certain task, say from 9 AM to 10 AM, within that one hour, you will commit yourself to do the task without any other distraction. You will not do anything else except the task during that hour.
In other words, you purposely block your time for the tasks. Can you imagine how much you can accomplish if you block a few hours of your time each day to do high-impact work that will change your life?
By the way, I time-block my article writing each day, this is why I’m able to constantly publish articles each week without fail.

We all know that meditation is good for our mental health, not only did meditation makes us more relaxed, but it also makes us feel more mindfulness.

John Assaraf, one of my favorite mentors once said:
“If you’re interested, you’ll do what’s convenient. If you’re committed, you’ll do whatever it takes.”
John Assaraf
Most people fail to achieve their goals and reach their dreams because they are interested in them. If you truly want to make your dreams a reality, you must commit to them. Hence, make your goal a commitment by declaring a public commitment.
When you share your goals with others, you are putting yourself on the line. You feel the pressure because you care about how others look at you.
More importantly, you have just made a declaration of what you are going to accomplish, and hence, there is no way to back down from it.
However, make sure you choose to share your goals with people who are positive and who will support you.

The word “mastermind” was coined and made famous by, Napoleon Hill. In his book, Think and Grow Rich, he said that mastermind can be defined as “coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purpose.”
It is said that the automobile mogul, Henry Ford, founder of Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, Harvey Firestone, the US President, Warren Harding, the father of electricity, Thomas Edison, and Luther Burbank, a well-respected agriculturist met together regularly to form a mastermind group.
These 5 amazing men would encourage each other, talked about their progress, and also brainstormed and came up with ideas to achieve greater success in their careers.
And this is why joining a mastermind group can be very helpful in reaching your goals and maintaining your motivation.

There is a book called Make Your Bed, written by Admiral William McRaven. The book explains why making your bed each morning can have a huge and positive impact on your well-being and behavior throughout the rest of your day.
Watch this short video below to understand the concept:
Now, go on and make your first win of the day – make your bed every morning and kick-start your day with motivation.
Every time when you’re free, whether you’re waiting in line or commuting, engage yourself with learning. You can listen to a podcast as you walk, read a book when you’re in the subway, or listen to an audio program when you drive.
The key is to turn your free time into learning. Well, you can also listen to the motivational audio if you want to. The takeaway is to listen to something valuable while you are waiting, commuting, or walking.
Perhaps, you have never thought that journaling can motivate you into taking action. Yes, it can. Journaling is a very powerful tool that helps us better focus on what we want in life.
When you write down your goals, the progress, what you have learned, etc, you are telling your brain that “this is something important”. Your reticular activating system or the RAS will then keep an eye on relevant opportunities and resources you need to achieve that goal.

Have you ever been working attentively on something and suddenly you were distracted by something menial such as you remember that you are yet to do the laundry or wash the dishes?
Clutter can distract you and kill your motivation and flow almost instantly. So spend a few minutes to clear the clutter and organize your workplace regularly. You want to create a motivating environment that helps you to get more done.
When you get everything organized, you also cleared the mental clutter in your head. This allows you to better focus on your work without any distractions. Your productivity will increase, and so with your motivation.

When it comes to motivation tips, most people only think about how they can use their time and motivation to the max. They miss one important factor that keeps them motivated, which is their energy.
And in order to keep your energy high, you need to get enough sleep. What is the point of working 16 hours a day but you are feeling like a zombie, can’t concentrate and can’t perform at your best?
I’d rather get enough sleep and work 8 hours a day to perform at my best. Quality is more important than quantity here.

This tip is easy and simple – if you want to have more time to do more things, and to maintain your motivation level high, just cut down your TV time.
Unless you are watching programs that are beneficial to you, you should watch less TV and read more. Watching unrelated programs will only use up more of your energy and willpower, making you less motivated to do the real work.
If you want to stay motivated throughout the day, you must keep your energy level high. And one way to do so is to keep your body hydrated.
One of the main benefits of drinking water and keeping yourself hydrated is that it increases your energy and relieves fatigue. When your energy is high, it is easier to stay motivated and have higher willpower to take action.

By now, you should understand why maintaining your energy is important to your level of motivation. And this explains why you should eat healthy foods and don’t skip breakfast.
The more energy you have, the higher your motivation, and the easier you can command your willpower to work on your tasks.
Do you know that multitasking is not going to work, especially for tasks that require your creativity and attention? If you don’t believe it, just try to read and talk to someone at the same time. You can’t do it.
When you read, you will stop talking. And when you talk, you will stop reading. The reason being that our mind can only focus on doing just one thing at a time. Hence, stay focused to keep your motivation and your flow.

Distractions can be a big motivation killer. You do not want to have distractions when you are working passionately on your work. So cut down any possible distraction, especially your phone.
Try to switch off your phone or turn to silent mode when you work. And if you need to use the computer to work but you don’t need the internet, then turn off the wifi connection.

Whenever you run out of motivation, just fake it and act like it. You have to understand that motivation is emotion, and emotion can be created by your motion.
The way you move your body, the pace of your breathing, your physiology, and your physical movement, can affect your emotions, and hence, your motivation.
So the next time you feel like no motivation, just move faster, change your physiology, your facial expression, breathe deeper, etc.
The moment you feel sleepy, just stand up and jump for 5 times, and then shout “Yes” out loud. You will feel the difference and the change in your mood.

Do not sabotage your motivation by overestimating your ability. If you have 20 things to do in a day, you are overestimating yourself.
Ivy Lee, the highly-respected productivity consultant suggested people work on only 6 tasks a day. You can read about his method here.
If you try to focus on too many things, and if by the end of the day, you did not accomplish most of them, you may feel dejected. Or even worse, you can feel overwhelmed even before you start.
You can also practice the “Daily 5” strategy from Robin Sharma. Just ask yourself, “What are five little things I can do today to make today a valuable day?” Write them down and take action to complete those 5 things.

Sometimes, we procrastinate because we worry that we may make mistakes or produce a second-rate result. When this happens, tell yourself that you are not aiming for perfection. And you don’t have to wait for everything to be right only to start.
Aiming for perfection can kill your motivation. After all, the longer you wait, the more likely you are not going to act. Perhaps, you should just follow Nike’s advice, “Just do it!”
Another great motivation tip is to make the task fun and engaging. Richard Branson has a great say about this:
“A business has to be involving, it has to be fun, and it has to exercise your creative instinct.”
Richard Branson
The same goes for everything you do. If the task is mundane and boring, I doubt that you will feel motivated or look forward to doing it. So make your work fun and engaging.

Want to get motivated? Just follow a role model. What you need to do is to identify a few role models you want to be like, follow them on social media and whenever you find yourself have no motivation, visit their social media pages or imagine what they would do in your situation.
When Arnold Schwarzenegger was young, he was inspired by Reg Park when he saw a Hercules poster by Park, and Arnold wanted to be like Park.
Arnold then made Park his role model and committed to making it in the bodybuilding industry, which he did. Not only that, but Arnold also went on to act in Hercules, just like Reg Park did.
Hence, find out who are your role models. Follow them, learn from them, and get inspired by them.
Here’s a good way to boost your motivation – change your environment. Sometimes you just need to change your surroundings in order to feel differently.
For example, as a blogger, I work at home most of the time. And there are days when I feel no motivation, I will just pack my laptop and get to Starbucks and continue my work. I don’t do this often, but it is a great way to get away when you feel ‘stuck’ and a new boost of motivation.

When a flower doesn’t bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.

Whenever you need motivation, go and talk to someone positive with high energy. Get help from others and let their energy influence you.
There are times when I feel like getting nowhere and feeling no motivation to work. What I will do then is to invite someone positive out for a cup of coffee. We will talk about work, career, business, goals, and dreams. And when the conversation is over, I feel motivated once more.
The key is to engage yourself in the topics that inspire you, like talking about your dreams and achieving your goals. When you do so, you focus your mind on the right direction and you will feel motivated again.
This is why Jim Rohn said, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” Therefore, keep an eye on who you mix the most.
Phew, this is a really long post. And I hope that you will be benefitted from these 52 motivation tips above.
What you need to do right now is to identify the one thing to do. It can be anything from writing down your goals, creating your to-do list, turning your goals into schedules, calling up a friend to share your goals, etc.
The key is to do something to build up the momentum and keep the momentum going. Just do something.
