So, you find it hard to get out of bed each morning? If you do, read on, because in this article, I’m going to share with you some of the strategies I used to motivate myself to wake up early, get out of my comfy bed, and kick-start my mornings with productivity.
Getting out of bed is a simple act, but it can be one of the most daunting tasks especially when you’re down, stressed, tired, and have no motivation to do so.
So, what should you do to motivate yourself to get out of bed? Here are my 5 ways…
1. Use an outrageous alarm
That’s right, this is one of the most straightforward ways to drive yourself up. I once set the “Eye of the Tiger” song as my alarm on my phone.
And every morning when the alarm goes off, it reminded me of my goals and dreams. The song is a cue for why I wanted to wake up early. It triggers me to think about my purpose in life and why want I want to get up early.
So, find a song and set it as an alarm to get you up each morning. It doesn’t matter what song or music you use, the key is to choose an outrageous alarm that will wake you up instantly.
If you use an Android phone, you can download The Rock Clock App. Trust me, if you use this app, you will be motivated to wake up. Each morning, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will get you up, even if you don’t want to!
2. Have something good to look forward to
The next thing you want to do is to create something to look forward to. I love coffee, but I don’t drink it every day. And you know what? If I want to wake up with motivation, I will just pamper myself with a cup of coffee each morning. It is something that I look forward to enjoying.
What about you? What are things that you look forward to doing?
Do you want love to have a big breakfast with your spouse? That could work too. Before you go to bed, tell your spouse that you will bring him/her for a great breakfast the next morning. And when the morning arrives, you will jump out of bed and can’t wait to go for breakfast.
The key is to have something good that you will look forward to having or enjoying. You want to prime yourself with something you love so that you will motivate yourself to get out of bed.
3. Give yourself a reason to wake up
Ask yourself, why do you want to wake up every morning? If you want to get motivated to wake up, you must give yourself an inspiring reason to do so.
Most people are able to wake up early on workdays because they have no choice but to go to work. However, during the weekends, they sleep late. They find it hard to get up. Why? Because they don’t have a good to wake up.
You see, when there’s no reason for you to wake up, why do you want to, right? You’d rather sleep on your comfortable bed than get up and have nothing to do, isn’t it?
This is why you want to give yourself a reason to wake up. It doesn’t matter what the reason is, but it needs to be something inspiring.
It could be…
- You wake up because you want to enjoy a good breakfast with your girlfriend.
- You wake up because you want to play computer games.
- You wake up because you want to continue to watch your favorite drama on Netflix.
- You wake up because you want to catch a golf game with friends.
Whatever your reason, make sure it is compelling to get you up.

4. Remind yourself of your exciting goals
Next, you want to set exciting goals for yourself and remind yourself of them. When Jack Canfield was a teacher and he had a goal of making $100,000, do you know what he did? He printed a mock-up bill of $100,000 and pasted it on the ceiling above his bed.
And every morning when he woke up and opened his eyes, the $100,000 bill was the first thing he saw on the ceiling. This was his cue for inspiration. Seeing the bill motivated him to get out of bed.
What about you? What are your goals? How can you use your goals as a trigger to get you up each morning?
What you can do is set an exciting goal that you really look forward to achieving. Write it down, and then place the notebook beside your bed. Every morning when you wake up, open your notebook and look at your goal. Let your goal inspires you to get up.
You can also use a vision board to do this. New York Times best-selling author, John Assaraf did exactly this. He even shared his experience on YouTube on how he manifested his dreams through visualization and the use of vision boards.
Here’s good news, John Assaraf has a web class coming up and you can attend it for free. He will show you how you can change your brain so that you can change your income and life.
5. Build morning habits
Do you know that you don’t need the motivation to get out of bed? The reason you’re relying on motivation is that you haven’t built a habit of it.
Hence, here’s what you should do. Get up at the same time every day for at least 30 days straight. You want to train both your mind and your body to get used to your morning routine so that waking up at the same time becomes a habit.
And once waking up at the same time has become your habit, you don’t need as much motivation as you expect. Things will become automatic.
For instance, these days I wake up at 7 AM and I have been doing so for a couple of months now. And right now, I can wake up even without using an alarm. My body wakes me up automatically at about the same time every day. And most days, I wake up even before 7 AM automatically, before my alarm.
That’s the power of habits.
Therefore, if you want to get up each morning feeling motivated, make it a habit. But first, you must train yourself to do so every day for the next 30 days.
